1993 marked their first
record for Thrill Jockey
recorded with Brad Wood
at the now infamous (and
closed) Idful Studios.
The record opens with "My
Old Drunk Friend",
perhaps the greatest song
Hank Williams never wrote
and features seven
originals and five
covers of songs by the
likes of Conway Twitty,
Woody Guthrie and Nick
Lowe. The album also
features Brian Dunn on
Guitar and Lisa Marsicek
on Fiddle and Mandolin.
The cover shows Catherine
and Janet and Dave on
Chicago Ave in Chicago.
This is the record that
solidified them as an up
and coming voice in the
world of Country music,
as well as being one of
the records that helped
kick start the whole No
Depression/Americana
craze. Unfortunately the
lp is O.O.P
